brown with caramel hair

Long story short, let’s take a look at thirty gorgeous examples of caramel hair color to get you inspired for your major fall transformation. Pops of red and caramel highlights with lowlights never fail to create a trend that’s on fire with glam—blessed with long tresses. This dimensional look will work best on your hair length, spiced up with beachy waves. The idea of partial light caramel highlights with a balayage method is genius. Grow your thin hair long, then bring loose waves to channel your inner beach babe. These long locks’ luscious caramel and honey-blonde hues are very dimensional and soft.

Light Brown Hair with Caramel Tones

For clients who crave a subtle transition from brown roots to a lighter color on the ends, try sombre hair. It's a subtle ombre that sees tresses shift no more than two shades brighter from root to tip. Finish by styling with a wide-barrelled curling iron and EIMI Glam Mist for loose wavy hair with luminous shine.

Stylish Caramel Pixie Cut

The caramel palette features an amazing range of hues, making it easy to select one to perfectly suit your eye color and complexion. Moreover, you can embrace this compelling shade in a variety of ways — by going for one tone, through caramel balayage, or by adding subtle highlights. Paired with a light brown base, these dark blonde highlights look really elegant. This caramel foilayage on a dark base was created on a woman with virgin hair by hairstylist Leanna Matthews of Canada. “It’s a soft look that I blended with a hand painting technique rather than straight-up highlights in foil,” she notes. Go above and beyond with these caramel blonde lush waves on brunette hair. An enticing trick to make it more interesting is the addition of these delicious caramel highlights that can accentuate and brighten the waves. I recommend this brown and blonde balayage hair for clients looking for natural-looking hair color with natural-looking sun-kissed highlights.

Long Caramel Waves

The sun-kissed and caramel color melt effects take a few sessions, yet its dreamy result won’t bother you. “Such highlights for brown hair are easy to maintain, especially for women that don’t color their hair often. The caramel swirl on brown hair color is a perfect blend of natural with a pop of rich tone. A few babylights add softness, making it perfect for any brunette,” she adds. I love how it goes from a light brown color to a bright white/silver blonde hair color. Not many women combine caramel brown hair with silver tones, but this hairstyle looks awesome.

Light Golden Brown

This unique color combination puts a modern twist on a classic look. This style helps you highlight all the best features of your hair with a stylistic appeal. The balayage caramel hair look is both stylish and aesthetically pleasing. This style looks particularly polished and remarkable on long flowing hair. You can also use rollers to add more layers to your look and make it more elegant and appealing.

Maintaining Your Gorgeous Caramel Brown

Using a brush during application eliminates the possibility of your hand pressing down too hard on the strands of hair. Instead of looking harsh and heavily saturated, you’re left with a more natural feel. Caramel highlights are so much fun to wear, and they can really bring the best out of hairstyles, too. This braided long style is made even more vibrant with hair highlights designed to add dimension and accentuate layers.

The tousled waves in this style help create a charming and relaxed finished look. This unique styling method can be paired up with a long bob to make it more aesthetically pleasing. This balayage hair caramel look can also be improved by adding ringlets to give your hair a sophisticated touch.

This caramel shade has cooler undertones, making it vividly different from other caramel colors. This rich color blend features a stunning combination of caramel colors, ranging from light blonde at the ends to a deeper shade at the top. Thanks to this color combination, your hair gets greater depth and dimension. Warm hair colors are seeing a resurgence after cool tones ruled recently — and there’s no better time to try one out than now as the weather heats up.

Long-haired and short-haired girls should try caramel highlights on brown hair or a caramel hair color at least once. This mix creates a contrast that adds depth and dimension to the hair, making it look vibrant and radiant. It allows for various styling options such as curls, waves, or sleek straight looks. This makes it a perfect choice for those who want a stylish hairdo. Get a few layers and try this mid-length dark brown and caramel hair color.

With almost the same color as a delicious chocolatey caramel spread, this hair color looks simply stunning on curls, waves or straight hair. The subtle caramel notes of this golden blonde hair color render the look even more feminine, beautiful and stylish. This blend of light caramel hues and dark caramel hues results in a beautiful summer look.

We swear that texture is the perfect complement to any look and this pretty hairstyle is no exception. These flame-kissed tresses offer a dynamic trio of color that consists of flaxen blonde, burnt sugar, and maple red. Twisted together in effortless perfection, they conjure up images of cornucopias and pies. This striking hair trend is so popular; it has developed a nickname of its own.

It took about an hour before the iron automatically turned off, and as added security, we liked that there was a locking mechanism to prevent the hot plates from touching other items while it cooled off. If you don't have time to go to the hair salon, this at-home keratin treatment kit comes in clutch. This treatment isn't a chemical straightener or relaxer, so it will not alter your natural curl pattern. Hair straightening products like smoothing balms and blowout creams can be rinsed out once you're ready for wash day.

Most products are compatible with all hair types, but there are a few tricks to enhance your styling game. “A spray is a quick way to apply [heat protectant] before detangling the hair,” Hatcher says. “If you have a lot of hair, or need a lot of product, a cream is the way to go.” For curly hair, Hatcher loves mousse because it can be scrunched in and leaves a weightless finish.

But hair that’s coarse, curly, and thick will likely need an iron that heats to 400 degrees or higher. We spoke with Trefor Evans, the director of research at TRI Princeton, a hair testing and consulting firm; cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski; and stylist Tippi Shorter, Aveda’s global artistic director for textured hair. We read research papers on heat damage, blog posts about hair destroyed by hair straighteners, plus hundreds of customer reviews of various flat irons. Want to shave off some precious minutes from your hot tool styling routine? Simply mix equal parts of the styler with your shampoo and wash your hair as normal. Condition, rinse, and blow dry as you normally would too, but leave your flat iron unplugged.

Straightening, smoothing, and heat-protecting—what can’t this Bumble and Bumble cream do? As if that weren’t enough, there’s also a conditioning blend in the formula to help hydrate and boost shine. While it’s non-greasy, this cream is best for thick and curly hair textures. (As lightweight as it is, it can be too much for fine hair.) It’s a little pricey, but consider it a one-and-done product, so you can streamline your getting-ready process. If you’re continually on a quest for ultra-smooth, ultra-sleek hair, you probably have an arsenal of styling tools to help you achieve the look. Also called chemical straightening, hair rebonding is a process that converts someone’s wavy hair to straight. There are some natural straightening treatments that you can use, but they are not really permanent — they will last anywhere from a couple of days to a week, which is quite shorter compared to the above-mentioned treatments. After learning more about some of these permanent straightening products, I bet you are tempted to try one out. I can honestly say that I am right there with you, but there are some things to take into consideration before committing to the process.

Leave-in conditioners can make hair feel heavy, but our thick hair felt soft and light after use. The end results felt similar to how your hair feels after leaving the salon. Overall, this product stood out as something we could use every day; nothing dramatic, but it provides consistent results. In February, she announced the line, Cécred, a collection of eight hair-care products that use luxury ingredients and encourage a ritualistic practice to achieve healthy hair. Inspired from her childhood experience of growing up sweeping inside her mother’s hair salon, Beyoncé said that she wanted to bring her mother’s “teachings to life,” according to the brand’s website.

Think about what you love and hate about straightening your hair (give me low heat that doesn’t fry my fragile hair all day, pls)—choose your hair straightener based on those parameters. This uniquely-designed flat iron features unique teardrop-shaped plates that are designed to make it easier to straighten close to the root, perfect for pressing cowlicks and baby hairs on curly or frizzy hair nice and flat. Our pros appreciate the nice, long cord, and testers like that "it heats up quickly," and reaches "a high temp that is required for my coarse, wavy hair type." We also like the broad range of temperatures, from 260ºF-450ºF. Ellsworth says that always using a heat protectant prior to styling your hair will also help prolong the style.

The 13 Best Hair Straightening Products Of 2024, Tested By Hair Stylists And Editors

We updated this article in June 2022 to add more detailed information about each featured product as well as expert commentary. We've added four new top-rated products to the original picks, selected by Good Housekeeping Institute Beauty Lab experts. All products featured on Glamour are independently selected by our editors.

The long-lasting floral scent was an added bonus, and it reminded us of salon-quality products and made us feel like we had just gotten our hair professionally done. Weighing under a pound and designed with smoothing plates and an overall adorable look, there’s a lot we love about this mini pink tool. We were particularly over the moon about its compact, rounded tip design, ideal for styling and curling short hair. Unlike traditional flat irons with an elongated shape, this one held our shoulder length strands in place, courtesy of the miniature size of the plates, and we never saw any dents from too much pressure. When we followed the brand’s suggested temperature settings for our hair type, we were able to style our hair quickly.

The final results are stunning; you will be obsessed with your hair looks, texture, and shine. Look at its Pros & Cons; I am sure you will add this product to your hair care routine. Its unique Auto-Control Technology quickly suspends the procedure once the desired straightness is attained, avoiding harm to the hair. I’ve conducted an extensive search for professional reviews on this product for you.

Since these creams are made for temporary straightening purposes, the mixed solutions are placidly mild, unlike hair masks or rebonding creams that contain heavier dissolutions to impede the reversion process of the natural texture. But, when using the term “Hair Straightening Cream,” it generally refers to a temporary but efficient styling solution that helps achieve straight hair instantly without using a flat iron. L’Oreal Paris Xtenso oil trio ensures the best hair rebonding treatment for all hair types, including resistant, regular, and chemically treated hair.

As you’d hope for when your end goal is free-flowing straight hair, this spray is light and non-sticky, meaning you can’t feel it on your hair once you’re done styling. This also makes it good for use on already-dry hair that needs a little refresh – and it has a nice fragrance reminiscent of a luxe salon. Results-wise, our straightened hair stayed noticeably smooth and soft to the touch all day long. Handily housed in a spray bottle, it claims to hydrate hair for up to 72 hours and, although we didn’t time it exactly, we can say that it still felt soft and smoothed-out by our next shampooing session. It can be used on both wet and dry hair, but if yours doesn’t absorb product that easily when dry, you might find it’s better suited to the former. Neither ceramic nor titanium is necessarily better or worse—it's just that one plate is likely better for your specific hair type.

It explicitly suits those delicate hair strands that require daily drying sessions. And at the same time, it cuts off the necessity of both higher heat flows and longer dry times. It withstands up to 450ºF of temperature to allow flat ironing for those who feel the necessity. A high-grade Cyclopentasiloxane concentration ensures you’ll have a nonsticky hairstyling experience, where the Phenoxyethanol [3] in it helps you get rid of any potential hair color damage. The cream may not contain the Oleo Keratin formula like the first product we reviewed, but it comes with one of the purest Keratin oils available. The unique keratin compound works up to five times more efficiently than traditional keratin protein elements found in typical hair care products.

Keratin Complex Infusion Keratin Replenisher

The Acidic Perfecting range also contains one of the best shampoo and conditioner pairings for damaged hair, so if you get on well with this treatment, we recommend picking those up, too. The best hair straightener will depend on your hair's thickness, texture, length, and condition. Thin, fragile, or damaged hair should stick with flat-irons with lower heat settings.

#2 Keratin Express Daily Keratin Treatment Heat Protective Cream

If you're ready to slay sleek, frizz-free straight hair, read ahead for the best hair straightening products for every texture. If you’re new to using hair straighteners or other hot tools, you won’t be intimidated by the Fhi Heat Platform flat iron we tested. The simple, intuitive tool didn’t require us to watch hours of tutorials or practice on an old Barbie before we were able to straighten our hair with ease.

Vernon François Styling Cream

From there, we never needed to re-enter our information — the iron remembered our unique settings and automatically heated up to that temperature with every use. As steam tools were new to some of us, we appreciated that there were downward facing arrows on the tool that we used to guide us through the straightening process and ensure we were holding it correctly. We also like that we only had to press one button to toggle between the three different temperatures as we straightened our hair.

What are the benefits of using hair straightening products?

And all of the dials and buttons are located inside the straightener, dangerously close to the plates. This placement seems logical, but some brands put their buttons on the inside of the straightener, making it easier to accidentally burn a finger. An ideal straightener gets quite hot, but not hotter than 460 ºF, with clear and granular controls that will help you figure out what temperature your hair responds to. But the fact that you need to blow-dry your hair when your hair is still wet means you should not overlook concerns regarding heat damage. When a hair strand holds on to the added moisture from the hair cream’s watery properties, it tends to get wrinkled as soon as the humidity starts to wane away. But unlike those of hair rebonding creams, styling gel, or setting sprays, you’ll be better off with something milder.

We loved the hydrating, lightweight formula and how it left our hair feeling soft, bouncy, and healthy. Although we noticed more shine in our hair, we did find that our hair looked slightly greasy after application, so keep that in mind if you have fine or oily hair. Curly hair typically needs more moisture than other hair types, so a hydrating heat protectant is very important. We love the Mizani Style Shifter Society Heat Screen, which is made specifically for curly hair types 4-8 to reduce frizz, soften hair, and increase shine. During testing, we noticed our hair felt significantly smoother and shinier after heat styling.

Available in both a liquid and solid formula, this volumising hair wash is a hero for limp and lacklustre hair. It's effective at removing oil and dirt, without compromising on the soft, glossy finish we expect from a high-end shampoo. Did we mention the classic shampoo is obtained with 100% clean energy, while its solid counterpart is completely carbon offset? A fantastic investment for anyone looking to go greener with their haircare. One of my favorite oils, this one has a nozzle tip to easily drip it directly onto my scalp before massaging. It uses basil leaf and baobab oils to help break down oils and gunk on my scalp, as well as balance my scalp microbiome.

“They get hot so quickly that they must be hotter than the guide is telling me they are,” she said. Moreover, if the idea of spending money and time on expensive heat protectants doesn’t entice you, there’s no better solution than a hair straightening cream. Moreover, although there are many flat iron variations to ensure you stay up to date with the trends, today we will talk about which hair straightening cream we consider the best. Raziuddin says that this Color Wow product is great for anyone with texture trying to straighten out their hair. "This product is applied onto wet hair and makes the hair waterproof," she says. "When activated with heat and tension, it helps to smooth the hair strands and provides an imaginary 'raincoat' on the hair." Used before hair straightening, it'll leave your strands smooth and silky.

Still, it ranked best in almost all categories, including fully straightening hair and keeping it sleek and frizz-free all day. It also got perfect marks from testers for gliding smoothly through hair and being easy to use, with all commenting on the "noticeable shine" in just one pass. "I really like how fast I was able to style my hair," said one tester, with another saying, "I would buy this product in a heartbeat." That is bad, obviously, and largely irreversible—frizzy and crunchy went out of style in the ’80s. The problem is that the maximum temperatures that hair can endure before developing damage varies by hair type and, really, by individual. “It really just depends on your particular hair and the way that you use the flat iron,” said cosmetic chemist Perry Romanowski.

Whenever we talk about hair creams, you may tend to think of styling creams that de-frizz your hair or smoothen out the strands for a stylish wet look. If you tend to avoid styling products because they turn your hair greasy, this is the one you need to try. Lightweight and nourishing, this blowout milk was designed to work on all hair textures. You can use this spray on damp or dry hair to add thermal protection and calm frizz for up to three days. If your hair is dry but also short on body, a deeply nourishing shampoo can sometimes veer a bit too heavy.

It also features Drybar's signature Ionic Technology, which releases negative ions to seal the cuticle to lock in the style and prevent frizz. Long hair that takes forever to straighten will appreciate an iron with extra-long and wide (like one-and-a-half or two-inch plates) plates that can fit larger sections of hair to cut down on styling time. But if your hair is short, you’ll maybe prefer a shorter, narrower iron that can get close to the root.

With the inclusion of just the right amount of Dimethicone, it makes sure that all the other vital elements provide the proper nutrition beneath your hair’s core while also protecting it from the heat you’ll apply. You can expect your hair’s straightness to last beyond the first shower after having styled your hair. But the most gracious thing aspect of this hair cream is its incredibly long-lasting results. The product also contains top-grade wheat proteins that have been collected using the most delicate hydrolysis process. Besides, the minutely refined Phenoxyethanol will ensure a bacteria-free scalp, eliminating any fungi growth in the process.

The now-discontinued Rusk Deepshine was slightly lighter—0.44 pound—than our runner-up pick, the Rusk W8less, which weighs half a pound.

We were seriously impressed by its effectiveness during our efficacy tests. This cream held up nicely when we styled our hair and used it on toast; we did not notice any sizzling with the flat iron, and the toast came out completely protected from heat damage. Though it does fully protect from heat damage, we wish the product did more to create body and bounce in our hair. Two key ingredients include peach oil and rosehip oil, which provide nourishing properties as well as a pleasant scent. This product fully absorbed within two minutes, but we noticed slight residue and product transfer on our hands during the touch test.

“For individuals with severely dry or brittle hair, it may be beneficial to oil two to three times per week,” adds Dr. Spann. This can result in leftover residue in your hair that will build up over time and can cause itchiness and irritation on the scalp, according to Jordan. We evaluated all products based on ease of application, absorption, efficacy, hair feel, and scent.

How to Get Rid of Mice in the Walls 2024 Guide

mice in walls but not in house

Other smells mice detest include crushed pepper flakes, cinnamon, citronella, and vinegar. Mouse urine, droppings, and saliva can contaminate food and surfaces, the scurrying sounds can get irritating, and the destruction of wires can also be a fire risk. When you have mice in walls but not in house issues, it’s not uncommon for some mice to die inside of your walls. Once a mouse dies inside the wall, it will begin to decompose and smell like garbage.

There are a variety of ways to trap mice including snap traps and glue boards. Professional rodent control should be sought for the knowledge, training, and expertise to successfully manage mice. After you've removed any mice roaming through your house, work your way down this list to make sure they — and any other rodents, for that matter — don't return.

They help spread seeds through foraging, which can help support plant habitats. Of course, many mice are used in scientific labs to help research diseases. A mouse infestation is not only unpleasant but is also difficult to deal with. Deer mice are worrisome because they are the most common carrier of an infectious disease called hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, which can be life-threatening.

Pay particular attention to your internal doors to increase the chances of keeping mice out of your home. You must follow steps to ensure your home is protected by using mouse control techniques. Examine your bathroom and kitchen thoroughly for possible entry routes for mice. Secondly, you will need to stop them before they begin multiplying.

I grew up in an area of Upstate, NY where dealing with wildlife pests is a common occurrence. Mice are repelled by the strong scent of cayenne pepper, which can also irritate their eyes and noses. Sprinkling a bit of cayenne pepper near doors and windows and in the corners of rooms may act as a warning shot to keep mice outside your house. Be sure to keep your doors and windows closed when possible and have any holes in the window or door screens repaired.

This behavior is more common among young mice, but adult mice may also engage in it. There are several reasons why you may not see any droppings despite the presence of mice. One possibility is that the mice are not staying in one area long enough to leave droppings.

Wear thick gloves when working with steel wool to protect your hands from its abrasiveness. The stainless steel wool can be used to plug potential entry points in the walls or flooring, where it acts as a barrier that prevents rodents from gaining access. It is easy to use and is strong enough that rodents cannot chew through it. The best way to keep mice out of your walls is to seal any openings that they could get into. This includes sealing gaps around pipes and wiring, as well as sealing windows and doors.

Bait snap or live-catch traps with peanut butter and set them along walls where you suspect mouse activity. If mice seem to keep evading traps left out in the open, you may have to drill a small hole in the drywall a few inches off the floor and place a trap right by the hole. Do not wait to see a mouse to contact a professional pest control service. An expert can find the mouse nest for you, control the infestation and advise you on prevention methods for the future. Another common sign of a mouse infestation is an unpleasant odor from their urine and feces.

Well, eventually, the water has to lead somewhere, whether it be outside or into the sewers. Some water, like accumulated humidity from an air conditioning unit, will be piped outside and into grass or rocks. Mice can easily slip through vents that are not screened or covered properly. Don’t forget about your attic ridge vents or soffit vents as well. The especially vulnerable areas will be the cracks behind bushes or other landscaping plants that might obscure the opening. As fall rolls around and temperatures drop, mice are searching for a cozy, warm place to stay for the winter.

Using these techniques works well with a mouse here and there, but it’s not meant to work with a full mouse infestation. If you find your home overwhelmed with mice, you can always reach out to a professional. Try to feed your pets indoors or pick up their food dishes each night to avoid attracting mice. Use the mesh to cover chimney openings, exterior vents, cracks, holes, and drain pipes.

They tend to avoid humans whenever possible but can take up residence in homes, favoring ground-floor walls for their nests. This species can carry hantaviruses, which cause severe illness in humans. The smell will be especially pungent if there is no ventilation in the area where the mouse died. You may notice this smell near an electrical outlet or behind a piece of furniture, where there isn’t much airflow. Having mice in walls but not in house issues may seem rare, but it is actually a common problem. Mice are small, agile critters and they can easily find their way into your home through openings that you may not even be aware of. Because of their size, mice can squeeze through holes that are less than 1/4 inch wide. While mouse droppings are a common sign of a mouse infestation, it’s not uncommon to find other signs without any droppings.

Dogs and cats are natural domestic predators of mice, and have been proven to create a landscape of fear that discourages mice from foraging for food or leaving their nests at all. After disinfecting your hands, return the scented trap to the air duct, reattach the vent grate and keep checking each morning for further trapped mice. If you can spot any trails of mouse prints or droppings, place the trap directly along those lines. For each vent, bait a snap trap with the fragrances of fetching foods, such as raisins, dates, cheese, chocolate or peanut butter.

How do you know if you have a serious mouse infestation?

mice in walls but not in house

At night, when the rest of the house is quiet, they run through the home in search of food and water. If you have mice in your walls, there are several options to get rid of them. You can either trap them, use repellents to cause them to leave on their own, or you can get professional help. Mice can also get into your walls through plumbing pipes or other utility openings in your home.

How To Get Rid of Mice in Walls & Crawlspaces

Other pests are also known to reside within walls and may require a customized pest control method to get rid of them. Mice are a major nuisance that can get worse in a hurry if left unchecked. As with most pest infestations, the cause may be the result of other household issues — for example, cracks around windows and doors that also let in water and cold air. Fortunately, the fixes are usually straightforward, and when done in tandem with eliminating food sources, they're almost certain to resolve your mouse problem.

Due to their nesting and feeding habits, mice cause significant damage to human food sources and wooden surfaces. Bite or chew marks in these areas often indicate the presence of mice. Mice living within walls rarely leave their nests during daylight. Before attempting mouse extermination methods, homeowners should properly identify their pests as mice.

We were able to seal the crack and other cracks that our technicians found, with materials that rodents cannot chew through. A quick inspection of the outside of your home can give you a good indication of whether you have mice in the walls. If you can find holes as big as a dime then we’ll bet you all the wealth in the world mice found them well before you.

This is why it’s important for homeowners to be aware of the common signs of a mouse infestation, such as hearing them running through the walls, in order to be proactive. You will most likely notice the signs of a mouse infestation before you ever actually see a mouse in your home. Hearing a scratching or skittering noise coming from the mice in your walls is a common sign of a mouse problem.

They contaminate food and leave their urine, feces, and dead bodies behind your walls. We also now know that mice can cause damage to your electrical wiring and insulation, as well as chew through the woodwork. And, most concerning, mice can also carry various diseases such as salmonella, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, leptospirosis, and even Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis Virus (LCMV). The house mouse is a small rodent with a short tail and pinkish-gray fur.

Rat droppings tend to be wider and longer — about half an inch in length. A house mouse can live for about two years in your walls, assuming it has access to food and water. Use rodent mesh, caulk, or steel wool to seal other entry points and encourage mice to use the one-way doors. Since mice are most active around dusk and dawn, you’ll want to install these devices during the day so they’re ready by nighttime.

She is a board-certified entomologist and volunteers for USAIDs Farmer to Farmer program. She is a professor of Horticulture, an Education Specialist, and a pest specialist. Feeke Mouse Snap Traps is a humane rat trap that kills the mouse in an instant. The trap is made of high-quality plastic and stainless steel, which makes it durable and sturdy. This product comes with a strong spring mechanism that ensures the mouse will be trapped and killed instantly.

Mice leave footprints in dusty or dirty areas, so check your basement, attic, or other areas that are not frequently cleaned. You can also sprinkle flour or talcum powder on the floor to make the footprints more visible. Snap traps, glue traps, and live-catch traps all work in different ways to get rid of mice in your home. Electronic mouse repellents have not been found to be effective at repelling and controlling mouse infestations. "If they get into the garage, they might just decide to live under your car hood, where the engine is nice and warm," warns Mannes. Once they start chewing on wires, they can seriously damage your car.

Mice are sneaky creatures that can easily hide in small spaces and avoid detection. Here are some signs that can help you identify a mouse infestation. You may want to contact a professional pest control company or contractor. These professionals will have the tools, knowledge, and licenses to remove mice from your home safely. There are various traps available, including humane traps, snap traps, electric traps, and bait traps.

Here's everything you need to know about mice -- types, habits, health risks, how to know if they're in your house, and how to get rid of them. There’s not a set number of mice in a house that’s considered an infestation. If you have just one or two mice in your home, they could breed quickly and produce dozens of mice. Address the problem as soon as you notice it so you don’t have to deal with a full-blown infestation. A serious infection or illness due to a mouse infestation is rare, but it can occur. Mice can bring fleas, ticks, and mites into your home, which carry illnesses such as Lyme disease.

They can also climb up and down walls, so if there is a gap between the wall and the ceiling, they will find it. When mice move around your home, they leave behind droppings and urine as well as an odor from their scent glands. This can make it difficult for you to enjoy being inside your own home and possibly even dangerous, as we mentioned above. If you have an attic, it is going to be warmer than your house because it is naturally insulated by the attic insulation and the heat of the sun. This provides a cozy habitat for mice to nest in during the day and sleep at night. The common house mouse is found throughout North America, Europe, and much of Asia.

No matter which method you use to get mice out of your home, they will keep coming back unless you seal all the little holes and cracks they are getting through. It’s best to stick with quick snap traps or catch and release traps. To figure out where the mice are roaming inside your home, look for evidence of mouse activity. Check for droppings, crumbs, holes in food bags, or food with little nibbles taken out of it. Brick and mortar fireplaces also pose a problem for homeowners looking for a mouse-free house.

Some claim that the smell of peppermint and clove oil repel mice. Soak cotton balls with these essential oils and stick them in areas that frequently attract mice like drawers, cabinets and entryways. "And they are way too aromatic – stinky — to tolerate in homes." "There is no fast, easy or guaranteed way to get rid of mice," Lerman says. "It's a process." Just like getting rid of silverfish and other pests in your home, like cockroaches, it's best to keep mice away in the first place. Yet even with every precaution in place, mice may slip through the cracks (quite literally!).

Board Insulation at Lowes com

house insulation lowes

Though it is a long-term solution for most homes, will blown-in insulation need to be replaced at some point down the road? Broadly speaking, blown-in insulation lasts anywhere from 20 years to a house’s lifetime. Under ideal conditions (e.g., professional installation, little or no water damage, minimal settling), this insulation material will maintain most of its thermal resistance for decades. Bags of both cellulose and loose-fill fiberglass insulation are readily available at most lumberyards and home improvement stores. Rock wool insulation, however, may need to be ordered (from the same stores), because it’s more of a specialty item. In addition to the insulation, you’ll need a blower if you intend to install it yourself.

Vapor Barriers

Minimum suggested insulation values vary by geographic zones, and you can find the recommended values for your region on this Energy Star map. Not all types of blown-in insulation offer the same thermal value, but in most cases, even adding a little insulation is better than not adding any at all. It is important to note that while certain types of insulation may have a higher upfront cost, they can provide significant long-term savings in energy bills.

Barriers that Increase Insulation’s Effectiveness

Some insulation products aren’t designed for DIY installation, and are typically sourced from the manufacturer or local dealer for new construction projects. Each of these insulation products works by trapping air, or at least making it more difficult for air to pass through the material. Also, some products are more suitable for certain scenarios than others, such as certain products being useful in horizontal applications but useless in vertical walls. When comparing insulation prices, consider the insulation material’s performance, the R-value, and the specific needs of your project.

The Best Expanding Foams of 2023

With its closed-cell structure, it is the most capable foam insulation for direct to ground contact of commonly available insulations. XPS insulation can be used as continuous insulation on interior or exterior walls to help increase the R-value of the walls, and improve the energy efficiency of the entire home or building. We also delved into the factors that affect insulation pricing, such as the type of insulation, the size of the area to be insulated, and brand or product variations. Comparing insulation prices at Lowes can help you find an option that fits your budget and requirements. Lastly, consider the long-term benefits and return on investment when evaluating the cost of insulation.

Ultimately, the budget, the space that needs insulation, and the required R-value are usually the main determining factors, but eco-friendliness and ease of installation might factor in as well. Whether you’re thinking about insulating crawlspaces, insulating basement walls or adding roof insulation, keep the following benefits in mind. Comparing insulation prices can be helpful, but it’s equally important to consider the quality, effectiveness, and long-term benefits of each insulation type to make an informed decision.

Types of Brick All DIYers Should Know

Additionally, remember to factor in any additional costs related to installation, such as hiring a professional or purchasing any necessary equipment or tools. By protecting your home from external elements, insulation prevents the infiltration of dust, allergens, and outdoor pollutants. This is particularly important for individuals with respiratory conditions or allergies, as insulation can create a healthier living environment.

Insulation plays a crucial role in maintaining a comfortable and energy-efficient environment in our homes. Whether you’re building a new house or looking to upgrade the insulation in your current home, finding the right insulation materials at an affordable price is essential. When it comes to purchasing insulation, Lowes is a popular choice for many homeowners due to its wide selection and competitive prices. Applications can reach much higher R-values for each inch of thickness than other insulation products, with values as high as R-6.2 per square inch (roughly R-34 on a 2×6 wall).

house insulation lowes

And in addition to creating an insulating blanket, blown insulation helps reduce sound transfer between the outdoors and the indoors, so unwanted street noise will also be softened. Sanctuary by Greenfiber can be installed in attics, walls, floors and ceilings to significantly improve the comfort, safety and well-being provided by any home. This is the first all-in-one cellulose insulation that can be blown-in or spray-applied, and it's suitable for all climates and conditions. Capable of reducing sound power by 60% and heating and cooling costs by up to 20%, it’s made from recycled plant fibers which keep carbon locked in for the life of your home. One of the key benefits of cellulose insulation is its superior thermal performance.

The cost of insulation is typically measured in terms of price per square foot or per package. Fiberglass insulation, for example, is usually sold in standard sizes, such as batts or rolls, with prices varying depending on the R-value and coverage area. Not only does it provide comfort and energy efficiency, but it also adds value to your home. Potential buyers are increasingly looking for energy-efficient homes, and having proper insulation can make your property more attractive and marketable. In this article, we will explore the various types of insulation available at Lowes and discuss their benefits and uses. We will also delve into the pricing and cost factors to help you make an informed decision when purchasing insulation for your home.

If moisture from either direction builds up within stud or cavity walls, the heat-conducting moisture will cause the insulation to lose its R-value. Rolled insulation is another type of insulation material similar to batt insulation. The main difference between insulation batts and rolls is that batts are installed in pieces, while rolls are rolled out between wall and ceiling framing. Insulation rolls leave less opportunity for gaps between sections, making them sometimes more effective than batts. R-value requirements vary based on the spot in your home in which the insulation is installed. When it comes to the best insulation for walls, the insulation material can also impact the R-values needed for good energy efficiency.

One study has shown that nearly 90 percent of homes are under-insulated, which means your hard-earned money is leaking out of your house. Insulation plays a critical role in creating a comfortable and energy-efficient living environment in our homes. Lowes offers a wide range of insulation options, making it a convenient and accessible choice for homeowners looking to enhance their home’s insulation.

Overall, fiberglass insulation is a cost-effective and efficient choice for homeowners. Its availability at Lowes makes it easily accessible, allowing you to improve your home’s energy efficiency and comfort without hassle. Whether you are a DIY enthusiast or prefer to hire a professional, fiberglass insulation offers great value and performance. Reflective or radiant barriers work differently than traditional insulation, and so this material’s effectiveness is not measured by R-values. While standard insulation reduces heat flow in a home, reflective insulation instead reflects the heat away from the home to prevent heat gain and radiant heat transfer to cooler surfaces indoors.

Just as DIY blown-in insulation installation is possible, it’s also feasible to remove blown-in insulation from your attic on your own—with the right tools and protective equipment. You’ll just have to bag the vacuum’s contents more frequently until the attic trusses are clear of the insulation. Otherwise, you can rent an industrial vacuum to make the job easier or hire a professional to do the work for you (the latter will be necessary either way when removing blown-in insulation from walls). As with all home projects, it’s only natural to wonder, “Can I do blown-in insulation myself? ” Blowing insulation into walls is best left to the pros because it involves drilling into stud spaces that may contain electrical wiring and pipes.

Edge Villa residents also have exclusive access to a private plunge pool, sun deck and lounge, as well as the Blu and Luminae restaurants. Celebrity Edge has one long main pool surrounded by loungers and two martini glass-shaped hot tubs a deck above. They don’t take reservations, just walk-ins, and we never had a problem getting a table. I am just off an eleven day adventure on the Celebrity Edge, sailing far south to the Southern Caribbean and the tip of South America. It was a great adventure, and I even got re-married while onboard. The Basement is the dedicated space for cruisers aged 13 to 17. The room is a two-deck setup with an upstairs and a downstairs that encompasses one bedroom, two bathrooms and a living room are.

Edge Class Suites include indulgent Stateroom Class amenities plus some exclusives, including access to The Retreat Lounge, The Retreat Sundeck, and private dining in Luminae reserved for our Suite Class guests.

I can't recall seeing anyone in there or Cartier during the cruise. One of the most talked about (and I would say controversial) pieces on the ship was the large scale installation in a hallway on the way to Eden. It was quite a discussion point amongst passengers in our Facebook sailing group. I don't know that pictures do it justice, but it was incredibly dark, with large sculpture pieces that looked like contorted Oscar statues. It is quite a large space, well decorated in tones of red, which seemed all the more appropriate on Valentine’s Day.

Instead of just rows of seats facing a stage, The Theatre was designed to be an immersive, sensory experience. The seating wraps around the circular stage, affording good sightlines from any seat. Celebrity put all the latest technological bells and whistles into this venue, and the elaborate productions don’t hold back in showing it off. The backdrop is projected onto giant moving screens, stage platforms and staircases rotate, the stage is rigged for acrobatics. No expense was spared in the lighting, sound, and size of the cast. For example, one show included a musician ensemble, singers, dancers, aerialist, acrobats, and trampolinists.

If you only do one specialty restaurant on Edge, please do Eden. The menu was incredibly similar to Chops on Royal Caribbean, which we have enjoyed thoroughly in the past. The restaurant opens to the Grand Plaza area but lacks a little ambiance. We were mid-ship on Deck 10, which proved to be a great location, and the cabin was thoughtfully designed.

Edge Class staterooms were designed with the modern traveler in mind. These staterooms feature the latest in design and technology, and they're 23% larger than our award-winning Solstice Class veranda staterooms. Eleven days is a significant amount of time that lets you explore and experience the ship, as well as fantastic ports.

Current itinerary of Celebrity Edge

Every effort is taken to deliver easy ship access and an unrivaled cruise vacation for our guests. Locate your stateroom, and our world-class amenities and venues throughout the ship. The liner then departed Port Everglades on a 2-day preview cruise with invited VIP guests only. The following tables show the ship's inaugural itineraries as call port sequences and times (arrival/departure). Prices are in USD and per person (double-occupancy inside cabin rates).

Your first glimpses of the city are towering white high rises, which was very different than our tour of the old town, which was full of well preserved Spanish colonial buildings. Separating the dining rooms into smaller spaces is an exciting idea, and I would say the only downside is that you don't get to know your wait staff as well. The Panama Canal itinerary was a big draw, and we were eager to try this class of ships. Having never sailed on an Edge series ship, there was lots to explore.

It will be interesting to see how dated the ship will look in another five years, as modern design changes rather quickly. On my previous cruise on Celebrity Equinox, I had excellent wait staff in the main dining room, and toward the end of the cruise, they knew my tastes and preferences and made excellent recommendations for food and wine. I was also impressed with the food, including a a mouth watering beef tenderloin in pastry.

Arrivals and departures are staggered; passengers can choose their time slot. Given the small size of their two fitness studios, Edge is aiming for private sessions rather than group classes. The generic daily class (yoga, HIIT, spin) cost a reasonable fee, and every day there is usually one free gym class and short health/wellness seminar. The studio is equipped for LIT Bungee Fit, barre, and cardio boxing.

Celebrity Edge is a different ship from the rest of the Celebrity Cruises fleet and was designed to attract people who have never cruised before. Celebrity typically draws middle- and upper-class folks in their mid-40s and older. During school holidays, the line's ships usually see a number of families with children, and the same may occur on Celebrity Edge (although the ship was not designed with families in mind). And the Celebrity Edge Magic Carpet isn't just a tender platform. It can be positioned on Decks 5 and 14, where it serves as an eatery or bar.

Evolving with the times, formal nights on Celebrity have been rebranded “Evening Chic,” a less stuffy approach than jacket and tie. Guests are encouraged to instead get “glamorous, chic and sophisticated.” For men, blazers or sport coats are optional; most choose dress pants and dress shirt, button-down shirts or dress sweater. Women can opt for formal or cocktail dresses, but it is acceptable to wear skirt, pants, or designer jeans with an elegant top.

Dining under the stars is always magical, and the Magic Carpet delivers. The Magic Carpet is open as a restaurant or just as a bar, and to experience its different positions as it ascends the side of the ship while you dine or tipple is great fun. AquaClass guests have their own restaurant serving healthier fare, as do suite guests in The Retreat, both of which are included in the rate for those passengers. It’s the buffet, but it has a back patio terrace that seems like you’re on a private yacht with only a few tables. For Edge’s ship-within-a-ship concept, top stateroom categories have their own exclusive restaurants serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The result is a beautiful presentation, and you’ll be spoiled with intimate, personalized service.

Best World Cruises of 2024 And 2025

In fact, you might be surprised to learn that living on a cruise ship can be cheaper than a mortgage, in case you decide you never want to return from your vacation. A world cruise is the ultimate travel experience and itineraries come in a variety of forms. World cruises travel to several countries and continents, so you can expect several sea days, with most itineraries having at least one long stretch of days at sea.

World cruises have long been a huge bucket-list item for travelers who want to visit many cities and countries in a seamless and comfortable way. Visiting multiple continents and dozens of ports while only unpacking once sounds like a far-fetched idea, but that’s exactly the opportunity that a world cruise affords. The MSC Poesia will take guests to 56 destinations on this 120-day cruise starting in Rome. Countries visited during this journey include Argentina, Chile, Peru, New Zealand, Australia, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, and Jordan.

Read on to discover where you can sail to in 2025 on a world cruise. Note that for the poshest lines, "entry-level" may mean a spacious, elegant suite with a veranda. For other lines, the most basic cabin is a small, windowless room.

🚢 Make concessions to stay at budget-friendly places occasionally, when necessary. Thankfully during our cheap world cruise, we never had any major incident requiring us to use the travel insurance we purchased, despite being hit by a typhoon in Japan. But we have made claims with World Nomads on previous trips to cover rental car damage, illness, and lost luggage, in which we found the claims process was efficient and fair.

Lately, they’ve even been offering generous Visa gift cards (hundreds of dollars) when booking with them, which we essentially view as cash back. For us, a cruise ship is a comfy form of transport to amazing destinations. Although we very much enjoy the amenities that cruises offer, this isn’t the main draw for us. For others, the cruise ship is the destination and the shipboard experience is a huge part of the appeal. It was nice to lock in those rates as contingency plans while keeping an eye on the prices of other potential cruises. We booked our cruise on the Celebrity Millennium from Hong Kong to Singapore over a half-year in advance and locked in a rate of $883 with prepaid gratuities.

To Country

Even though we only took four cruises, we had actually made eight reservations. We ended up canceling four reservations for completely different cruises (similar routes) that we never took. Additionally, we splurged a few hundred dollars extra for two cruises to have a stateroom with a window during these lengthy voyages. If you’re okay with an interior cabin, you can easily shave off even more from the world cruise expenses we’ve shown throughout this post.

We also like how CruiseDirect shows the total price, cabin availability, and the ability to complete the entire booking transaction online yourself without the need to speak to an agent over the phone. The search functionality of CruiseDirect isn’t the best, so we don’t use it to search but rather to book. Yet a simple approach is to bookmark the cruise fare pages and make it a 1-minute morning routine to see if rates have changed. I make notes on the bookmarks to remind me of what the cost was and what promotions they were offering, so I can easily recall and compare how rates may have changed. One wrong move or a sold-out cruise can break apart an entire world cruise itinerary being strung together. And it’s a puzzle you may be working on while simultaneously traveling, which makes assembly all the more difficult.

Want To Cruise Around The World? Here’s How Much A World Cruise Really Costs

Cunard’s full world cruise is a 111-night itinerary that starts at $18,699 per person, meaning a per-night cost per person of $168. The round-trip from Hamburg includes ports in North and Central America, Australasia, Asia, Africa and Europe. Many cruise lines will include more of these as standard in their world cruise fares. What you’d normally pay for separately will be incorporated into the fare. For example, Royal Caribbean includes WiFi, drinks, tips and laundry in the Ultimate World Cruise fare, and normally you’d pay extra. If you have the time for a longer cruise then go for it – it won’t just be filled with sea days, but you’ll instead see more ports.

Eventually, make your way to the west where you can catch a final transatlantic back to North America. Popular ports to depart from include Copenhagen, London (Southampton, Dover), and Barcelona. As we’ve already mentioned, the best place to start such a voyage is wherever you’re currently located, even if it’s not a port town served by cruise lines. Determine your nearest major cruise port hub and start researching when long-distance cruises depart from there.

It’s possible the cruise continues onward in a subsequent cruise. First, that depends on where you’re starting your voyage and the time of year. For example, if you’re beginning in the US in the Fall, your best options are transpacific repositioning cruises heading west. If you were to begin in the US in the Spring, the likely option would be to begin on a transatlantic from the East Coast and head east. And when brand new ships launch, they don’t necessarily follow the seasonal shifts either.

It is important to note the duration of the cruise, which often correlates with the price. As you could be at sea for weeks or months at a time, it is vital to bring variety of clothing options for all types of weather. Weather can be changeable, and it never hurts to prepare for all eventualities, from sun to rain! Of course, cruise ships will do their best to avoid storms and itineraries will be planned accordingly, so no need to worry.

It was heavenly waking up to the lapping of rolling swells and the sweet ocean breeze, as we often scheduled a morning pot of coffee to be delivered to our stateroom upon waking up. With limited time on land, make the most of the experience by diving into the local cuisine. Although it will certainly add to your world cruise budget, we find it to be very worthwhile for the negligible spending to eat local when on land. Those trying to pursue a world cruise on a budget can save by simply avoiding specialty dining, which comes with an upcharge. Many people love specialty dining, particularly so on lengthy cruises because returning to the main dining room every night may become monotonous.

Shore excursions can be an extremely convenient and efficient way to explore ashore, but they’re not cost-efficient. To further enjoy some beverages while on the ship, take advantage of any drink promos being offered. For example, most cruises allow you to bring aboard your own wine. So researched the rules in advance and bring the maximum allowance. There are lot of tactics to get free booze during a world cruise.
